MEGHANN HANOUR SPRAGUE
"It began with Christmas trees and lights. It started with stockings and tinsel. Even in June I would sit down as a little girl and paint a merry living room scene decked with all the halls of a fireplace and holiday cheer. Today I still love Christmas but my subject matter has become about the human figure rather than a little girls hope for sparkly gifts under the tree. I did a lot of drawing as a child and some in high school. I dabbled in a few weeks of figure drawing out of grade school that fanned the flame even further. You would think being a stay at home mother for most of my twenties and into my thirties would afford lots of opportunity to develop, but most of the developing was done by my children. I did however find moments for myself, I wrestled in the late hours to hollow out time for painting, sewing and drawing. Taking pictures of my children as they walked through their days led to a fascination with photography. Combining my interest with photography, clothing design and painting developed a unique vision for how I desired to execute fine art. To find the lines with needle and thread, to drape the form from toe to head began a journey I am still unfolding. I long to capture light against the skin by way of pen, to unleash the wild within until I feel completely born again. Art is a process and a life long journey I am honored to be a part of."
Meghann was selected for the April-June 2016 AVA a-i-r program, and again for the July-September 2016 program.
