BILL FITCH - #1
40232 Hunt Lane (Svensen)
I spent 25 years as an Interior Architecture Designer in Portland, Oregon. My designs of building interiors and furniture were all done on vellum by hand. As the world started to shift to rely on computers, drafting by hand became less prevalent. All creativity went to the wayside.
I decided to make a change. I moved from Portland to Astoria, where my brother was a Forest Manager. I painted the exterior of houses, did a little plumbing and electrical work, but my work was completely outside the interior design field.
Today, I belong to the “Draw Group”. We gather in the Astoria area, as far south and west as Gearhart, east to Knappa and north to Chinook, Washington. Indoors and out. Whatever, strikes our fancy. The Group began as a desire of one artist, Christi Payne, wanting to be with other artists. I am proud to be a part of this group, since 2007.
My work is primarily done in Water Soluble Graphite. It took several years to master this medium. With the help of others in the Draw Group, I’ve learned to create a proper arrangement of lights and darks, leading the eye into to painting, and always remembering that you have ‘Artistic license’ to place into your work, which makes the painting come alive.
