watercolor, pastel, found material
email: carolellen711@sbcglobal.net
Born in Detroit, Michigan, Carol began her undergraduate education in the field of interior design, then changed course to earn a Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology. She worked as a speech therapist for several years, but eventually returned to her original passion, the fine arts. She has been studying and making art as required by her course work at The Glassell School of Art , Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas, as well as independently working in her home studio since l997.
Artist statement:
”The greatest poetry arises from mysterious found objects and chance encounters.”
For me this quote captures the essence of that which inspires and compels me to make art. I'll come upon some strange object or material......often something most would consider a discard.....and some quality it possesses will attract me. Sooner or later that quality will appear in sculpture, assemblage, or a drawing.
My challenge and pleasure is to elevate and celebrate the ordinary and at times strange objects which cross my path.
