GREG NAVRATIL
Gearhart, Oregon

gregnavratilart@gmail.com

Navratil's paintings are done in a sharpened impressionism done up in an extremely vibrant color palette. The work depicts nature, but the bright colors turn these familiar scenes into something from a dream. Many paintings deal with the repetition of similar shapes. Rarely is there just one leaf but a cacophony of them, with the shapes literally smashing together. This isn't to say that there is a violent tone to the work, but instead a joy that cannot be contained. Some paintings even impart a calmness, the type when you're outside in nature and take a deep breath, filling your lungs with fresh air. His work presents scenes which he finds out in nature himself before starting to paint. His paintings remind us that abstraction is not removed from nature.
