AVA artist-in-residence, Fall 2019 Morrison Pierce has been a painter for the last 25 years, working in various styles and mediums. His work has been exhibited in galleries, museums, and abandoned buildings throughout the US. “Art has been my world for the past 20 years,” he says. “I have founded art collectives, traveled the world visiting premiere art destinations…” In 2017, he flipped a buffalo head nickel and landed in Astoria. Morrison is represented locally by the McVarish Gallery/Secret Gallery and also shows work at Antler Gallery and Talon Gallery in the Alberta Art District in Portland. The AVA artist-in-residency will provide Morrison with the space he needs to work in larger formats and help him create a new body of work for two upcoming group shows at the Secret Gallery, in November and December. He also plans to work on getting a featured exhibit in a Portland gallery that is well situated in the larger contemporary art scene, thus furthering his career as a professional artist while connecting the local arts community here on the North Coast to the larger contemporary art scene, as well. |
